FORBES COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY

Rebuilding in a Safe Non-Judgemental Environment

About Dean Forbes

I am a professionally qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working with individuals who may struggle with a variety of issues. I offer a warm, supportive and safe environment where we can explore what is going on in your life. We can work together to find alternative ways of dealing with them.

I am sensitive to how difficult it might be to share things with a stranger, so I work to create an atmosphere of trust within the room. As the therapeutic work develops, hopefully it would become easier for you to share and further strengthen our relationship. Working with me will allow you the space to express what is going on for you in a safe non-judgemental environment.

Starting Therapy,
how does the process work?

What is therapy?

Sometimes the struggles in life can seem too difficult to manage and cause you to become stuck, confused or even feel alone.
Having someone to talk to, who can listen without judgements, can help to alleviate the burden and unpick the confusion.

It can be called counselling, therapy or psychotherapy, but the process usually involves a difficulty that you would like to work through. This may be deeper, past issues that you may find hard to let go, or the rigours of day to day troubles that wear you down. At the same time, therapy can be a liberating and exciting experience, helping to discover who you really are and unlock your true potential.

My Approach - Bridging The Gaps

I am an integrative psychotherapist, which means bringing together a few different approaches to help work on the issues. These approaches are mainly: Person Centered which surrounds the here and now or current situations. Psychodynamic which involve issues that you may not be consciously aware of and issues in your past.

The Way Forward

I deliver therapy in face to face sessions and video sessions via Skype and FaceTime.
My way of helping is not to tell you what is right or wrong or to direct you on what to do, no one is really qualified to do so. Instead, I offer a space for you to lay out your issues, work towards understanding what is going on and together we find a new way forward.

  • I work in the following areas

    Anxiety - Bereavement - Bullying - Depression - Family issues - Identity Issues - Generalised anxiety disorder - Low self-confidence - Low self-esteem - Relationship issues - Sexuality - Stress - Loss - Trauma - Work-related stress

  • The Initial Consultation

We would first explore what brings you to therapy, what you would hope to achieve from it and how we can move forward. It will give you a feel for how I work and help determine whether the orientation I work within is suitable for your needs. It also offers you a non-obligatory experience to determine if you would want to start therapy with me. The initial consultation can last up to 75 minutes.

  • How long would I need
    to be in Therapy?

I offer long term, short term and time limited therapy, but ideally this depends on what works best for you and your present circumstances.

With long term therapy we will have periodic evaluations to discuss how therapy is going for you and its continuation.

Happiness is not the absence of problems,it's the ability to deal with them.
